Be sure to check out the Roy Nichols sites.
One of country's best ever guitar men.
ROY NICHOLS, guitarist for Merle Haggard and other prominent country-music acts, died of a heart attack early Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Bakersfield's Mercy Hospital.
Roy's Requiem
And then it got quiet
I could hear my heart
I thought of his life
Except for the very last part
The part where he sat there
And wanted to die
The part where he questioned
Kept asking God "why?"
And then it got empty
Though I played records 'til dawn
I thought about spirits
And what makes a soul move on
I know all the riffs
The notes he would bend
But it's all just a re-run
Nothing fresh ever again
The record is over
I can see the first light
I heard the last note played
And then it got quiet
